We are looking for a skilled musician with a strong affinity to the LGBTQ+ community to support the continued growth of our choir and develop our performance/vocal skills and confidence. For many members the choir is our chosen Rainbow family and a safe space to be our authentic selves. Our musical director plays an essential part in fostering a welcoming, fun and inclusive environment.
The musical director appointed will have experience of leading and developing choirs and will have the ability to balance the needs of singers with varied abilities, making music accessible for all. Experience in arranging music is desirable but not essential. Remuneration is competitive and in line with experience. Additional concert fees are paid.
We anticipate that the successful candidate will start in June or September 2024.
About Us:
We are Surrey's LGBTQ+ choir, established in October 2019. We are a community choir, and are proud of our musical standards and ability to create fun, meaningful events within our LGBTQ+ community. We are a charity run by volunteers; it is our mission to create a safe space for LGBTQ+ people and our allies to enjoy making a wide range of music. We focus on popular music and avoid religious songs.
Our aims are to:
1) provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive space for people to rehearse and perform music
2) celebrate and communicate our identity through attendance or performances at relevant community events
3) provide an opportunity for members to attend social events to enable them to develop their own personal networks within the LGBTQ+ community
We rehearse on Tuesday evenings (7:30 - 9:30pm) during term time in Guildford town centre and aim to perform three times a year with additional performances at Surrey Pride and other LGBTQ+ events. We have a membership of 30 singers, and are looking to grow the size of our choir.
How to apply:
Please send your CV to Surrey Rainbow Choir (surreyrainbowchoir@gmail.com) with a covering letter about why you wish to join our choir no later than the 30th April 2024. If you would like to discuss the role further, a conversation with Claire Worthington, the chair of the choir, can be arranged.
You must be eligible to work in the UK.
Selection will be by a process of interview and audition.
